At Unbranded our mission statement is: provide a real return on investment to the farms we are fortunate enough to work with. Plain and simple, we’re driven to make American farmers more money. Big ag leaves you just enough margin to stay in business. We want to see you flourish. Your successes are our successes.

Unbranded’s owners began their journey into the seed world back in 2004, with the purchase of their first seed corn company. That journey focused primarily on providing the highest quality silage corn to America’s dairy farms, through proprietary genetics and unique industry crosses. Along the way they became quite skilled at testing and selecting silage hybrids for quality. As the pool of genetics grew, and developments were made, they realized they could not only make outstanding silage hybrids, but top yielding grain hybrids as well. As their original journey came to an end, these owners were struck with an idea: why not use the proprietary genetics, that consistently outperform industry hybrids, to start a simpler company, a company with no ties to Big Ag. With that, UnBranded was formed, and an easier, more affordable, way to buy seed corn was founded.

FAQs

  • With the rapid spread of tar spot, and the economic loss that comes with it, this is a very popular question right now. At Unbranded, our genetic base has industry leading tar spot tolerance. In fact, in our replicated plot locations that featured heavy tar spot pressure, our hybrids showed a 17 bushel yield advantage over Dekalb varieties, a 15 bushel advantage over Pioneer, and a 20 bushel advantage over Syngenta.

  • No. And with the rise of cheap seed corn brands out there, brands that are using that strategy, we understand the question. Our proprietary germplasm is solely ours and our breeding program is cutting edge. We are constantly developing newer, better hybrids to keep you in the best seed at the most reasonable cost. We are more expensive than these “cheap seed” brands, but running a breeding program costs more than turning around off-patent hybrids. What we are able to do though, is to save you royalties that line the pockets of big ag.

  • There are a lot of companies in our industry that claim “independent” or “American” ownership, and, to be fair, many are. Let’s face it though, some of those companies are publicly traded and answer to a stock price more than a farmgate price. Some of those companies have a significant percentage of their stock owned by overseas entities. At Unbranded, we are truly independently owned and operated. Having our own proprietary genetic base we aren’t even influenced by the pressure of big ag, leaving us free to make decisions that benefit you and benefit us. Isn’t that how a business relationship is supposed to work?
